Persuasive Poem

67 comments:

  1. Please Put Me in the Game

I spend my nights in this gym
Working as hard as I can
I push myself to the limit
    I follow your plan

But no matter how hard I try
Even if I know the plays
    You barely acknowledge me
    On our important game days

    I want more than anything
    To help our team win
But I sit on the bench
Begging you to put me in

    You started to listen
As our season came to a close
But I wish you had seen before
How I played like the pros

    My defense was better
    I could steal the ball
    My offense was great
    I executed it all

    I have pure decication
    And am committed too
    I need more playing time
    I can show you

    I have the potential
    I could be a starter
But I have no more experience
    Than in the fourth quarter

If you give me that chance
To show you I can play
I won't let you down, Coach
    I am here to stay

  2. School should start late every day
Because at 1:30 we don't want to stay

    We are slow and tired
    at the time they required

    We would be more attentive
    and actually have a motive

The early mornings are ruining us
If we started later, we wouldn't fuss

So I hope that you consider
    This little life saver

    If we just started later
    The world would be greater

  3. Mom and Dad, please buy me some Coach shoes
I've been saying this forever, it is not new news

    Though they cost a lot
Please give the idea some thought

I've got good grades, I've made my bed
I've been a good girl, it's not in your head

It's just so easy, to go to the mall
And bring them home so we can all have a ball

My shoes are tired and worn and I have no other choice
I'm sitting on your shoulder, please listen to my voice

I'm tired of sneaking into Joey's room
And stealing her shoes to recreate our doom

    I deserve these fantastic shoes
so to the mall, we will cruise

  4. When I turn sixteen I will have a license
I will then need a car to drive since

I’m going to go places with friends
Places where the fun never ends

Without a car, I will be a loner
And will live in a dorm with my roommate the stoner

If you don’t want me to end up high
I think it’d be best if you were to buy

Me a car in which I could drive around in
And live a happy, successful life therein

Drugs will ruin my chances at success
And I will have to work at Wal-Mart for even less

If I ever finish my education, no one will hire me
Because I have been at Wal-Mart for my life’s entirety

A car can change this, and you won’t be ashamed of me
Because I’ll have a job with a starting salary
Of one hundred thousand, five hundred fifty

  5. I Need a Car
    by Paige J.

    On those freezing mornings,
    LPS ignored the warnings,

    we trek through the snow
and all the flakes will blow

getting me a new purple car
or some money for my money jar

will end all this pain and cold
so please, if I may be so bold,

buy me a purple Saturn Vue
of a purple car or two

    Imagine all the driving,
    all those painful hours driving

    I could just bring myself
while to a massage you treat yourself

Imagine all the time you'd save
if me a car you gave

  6. Please Adopt One

    The puppies are small,
And honestly they are quite tiny,
    Each an itty-bitty fuzz ball,
With those eyes that are oh so shiny.

    Without a home
    They sit and pout,
Waiting for someone to let them roam
    And trust without another doubt.

    Looking for new lives,
    Adopt a sweet puppy now
It could be a present for your wives!
Don’t get that big fat milking cow.

    They are loyal and fun,
    Playful and sweet,
Though they may eat your sour dough bun.
A new family member to meet.

Quite frankly we are running out of money,
    These poor dogs are starving,
And trust me, its not funny.
Buy a dog instead of that carving.

    They need to go
    To a happy house
Where the families love will flow
and there isn’t the sight of one dirty mouse.

    Adopt one now.
    They need your help,
To eat some better puppy chow.
Don’t let them just lie here and yelp.

  7. It just so happens that today,
I came across a puppy stray.

And ever since I was quite small,
    I have wanted a puffball

    Unfortunately there is one flaw.
Puppies are against my parents’ law.

So here I am trying to convince,
My parents they don’t need to wince.

You see, I would take such good care,
    Of that little puppy there.

I would take him on my strolls.
And fill up any garden holes.

I would keep him nice and neat.
And give him plenty food to eat.

I will train him so he obeys.
And I will love him all his days.

So mom and dad please let me keep,
This adorable puppy or I will weep.

  8. Flakes fall from the heavens
But I’m waking up at seven

    Other schools have been delayed
While they’re still sleeping we’re wide awake

Ice and snow make roads slick
And while I’m driving the clock ticks

    Bus drivers deserve a break
From all the chaos they take

    And staff works so hard
    They must just be marred

    Students don’t get much sleep
The wrong decision will make them want to weep

Oh superintendent, about this I pray,
Wont you please let us have one little snow day?

  9. The Poetry Challenge

    School is over,
But my brain does a turnover.

    I greatly dread,
    The pile of homework ahead.

    The workload is giant,
But I know I will do it to be compliant.

    But by far the worst,
Is the poetry that makes my head burst.

As soon I finally sit down to my desk and think,
My brain quickly starts to shrink.

I hope with all my heart,
That I will soon be able to start.

I cannot think of anything worse,
    Than to write rhyming verse.

My brain has now turned to slop,
I hope someday the poetry unit will stop.

Oh teacher I would love for you to say,
    The poetry unit ends today!

Mom and Dad, backwards I will bend
If you will just let me have a furry friend

No a bunny, hamster, nor cat will do best
A puppy can only fulfill my request.

I am aware that you doubt my responsibility
But I promise to care for him with great agility

I can brush him, walk him, and feed him as well
I can pay for it all; you do not have to yell!

I can’t say I have loved anything more
than that cute little dog barking in the pet store.

I’ll come down with a case of happiness fever
If you let me have that little golden retriever

I beg of you parents, I am on my knees
Let me adopt that small puppy, please!

  12. Let me go out Tonight

I want to go out tonight
To see a movie full of fright

My friends are waiting for me
They don’t know where I’ll be

I want to go out tonight
Let me stay out till midnight

    I will be responsible
    Any way I’m unstoppable

You can’t keep me here all day
If you say no I will give an unpleasant display

    Might as well say “Yes”
    For you I will impress

Please let me go out tonight
    And don’t be so uptight

  14. Challenging the Flowers

So let us see, what I can say,
To inspire you on this cold wintry day.

That everyone is special and unique,
And everyone has a message that they want to speak.

We each have our talents that we own,
And to others we must condone.

We all see differently this world of ours.
We all have dreams somewhere up in the stars.

We all are flowers, different shapes, size, and color.
And we all want the approval of the other.

So, dear reader, I want to say,
What are you going to do today?

To support your peers in all that they do,
And to also offer a smile or two.

How will you make our world a better place?
And help others find their own little space?

In this world there are the ups and downs,
And sometimes we need to hear a cheerful sound.

Or have a helping hand reach out to us,
So we don’t feel like the passing dust.

We all are special and different as well.
Hopefully this is a message I don’t really need to tell.

    Smile some, laugh a lot,
And help others out when they get in a tough spot.

And now, my dear reader, I will say good bye,
    Until there is another time.

Until there is more to say,
    Another message to convey.

I hope you hear this and take it to heart.
Now I have challenged you, here’s a little push, now start

  15. Don’t dive there
If you do your case will not be so rare
    For your body will hurt
Because it’s like diving in dirt

Don’t dive in the shallow pool
You be as cool as you feel
    You’ll bob up in pain
For you hit your head on the drain

    Fine dive there
    I would not care
    It is deep enough
That it will not be dangerous

    Don’t ski away
It is not the right day
    The snow pack is weak
And this could make things bleak

The snow will crack and slide
And it is possible that you collide
    With a mighty tree
    And this could be deadly

  16. Look from where I stand.
I beg you to please understand,

That it pains me to leave
And watch you sit there and grieve.

    But I’m a grownup now
And I need you to allow

For me to have time and space,
And the ability to find my place.

And as I watch from my window as I drive away,
I want you to know that even though I may be far away,

I will always be with you in your heart.
Even if we are far apart.

  18. No More Smoke
Listen now, this isn’t a joke,
I’m tired of this, no more smoke,

I think we need a law,
Because in this country I’ve found a flaw,

Cigarettes are bad, for they cause cancer,
It might as well be called a death enhancer,

    What’s the upside, I don’t see one,
    That’s right, there are none,

Is it too much to ask,
Together, we can finish this task,

So government I call to you,
Stop this; make our country feel new,

    Smoking creates a dark cloud,
If we could stop this, my mom would be proud,
    No more smoke!

  19. To a Friend:

Hey, I know that times are rough,
But really, you should just hang tough.

You've tried so hard, but your dreams, they've shattered.
Now all I want is to tell you that you matter.

Believe me when I say that you happiness is due,
I'm here to let you know I'll be here through and through.

For all that you've lost, there's so much to gain,
That's why you can't let your dreams wane.

I know that this is all coming out a little sappy,
But what I want is for you to be happy.

So right now I'm just calling to say,
Tomorrow's gonna be a better day.

  21. Live With a Dream
    By: Blake D.

Life is not worth wasting on sorrow and grief,
It’s better worth wasting on a simple belief.

Not only to live and love and be free,
But to live with one another in sweet harmony.

So don’t give up on life because it’s too hard,
Just keep persevering and playing the right card.

I know it can be hard, trust me when I talk,
Because I know what it’s like to be under a cell with a lock.

By thinking only that life is never as perfect as it seems,
It’s hard and complicated especially with no dreams.

So dream one more dream if none at last,
To persevere forever, but not very fast.

    Always remember and never forget,
That whenever in doubt dream on, it’s always correct.

And are made up of five different jays

Do you know what its like to twirl?

Have you ever done a grand jeté?
    Or attended the ballet?

I ask you now, won't you sit and listen
Do you ever just dance in your kitchen?

    Dancing is a wonderful art
So come on now, be smart

Why would you choose to simply walk?
When there are so many ways to get across

You could chasse, leap, or even prance
There are so many different types of dance

but keep your chin up, it pays,
    and always pursue your dream

you see, anguish cuts like a knife
the pain is not visible today
    but can soon cause strife
    leaving an empty space someday

  27. Loneliness

    It’s easy to forget
    How complacent we can get

And speak only to our friends
For which we cannot make amends

For from each tight-knit, exclusive group
Someone is left out of the loop

Though this person may seem a creep
The hurt inside will make them weep

And you in your world will never know
That this kind of pain strikes down low

And as you judge them while you walk by
You’ll miss that they’re just as cool as you or I

And while you laugh at their stammering stutter
They look away ashamed as you mutter

“What a weirdo, what a freak”
It’ll tare them down until they’re weak

So please remember this and try to start
reach out to the outcasts with an open heart

The Vow is the best movie of the year
Let me go, and I will always hold you dear

    Channing Tatum is extremely attractive
I would love to see him, so let’s be proactive

You know I love popcorn and candy
In the movie my mood will be just dandy

It’s up to my knees, it’s clouding my head,
This horrible weather has bound me to bed.

I should be preparing for the boring school day,
But I can’t seem to face the cold sky so grey.

My friends have all texted “School today, ugh.”
There’s someone to blame for this terrible luck.

The superintendent said “Off to school, kids!”
Perhaps he should rethink that statement of his.

    It’s windy, it’s wet, it’s 20 below zero,
Just give us a snow day, and you’ll be a hero!

Traffic is bad, our car will get stuck,
Emma has to walk through the slush and the muck!

The other school districts are out, why not us?
We’re freezing and tired while waiting for the bus.

Today, like always, let your best judgement guide you,
And be sure that you keep a space heater beside you.

  30. Don’t Kill The Fish!

The light hits the water just so,

    The waves rolling in,

    A beautiful sight to behold,

And to damage it would be a sin.

The bright colors dart through the water,

    Propelled only by a fin,

The fish put on a marvelous show,

    And everyone else joins in.

But the dance is soon interrupted,

By a huge and bulky Quin,

    The fish are bundled up,

Awaiting the cans made of tin.

They only wished to swim along,

    But they certainly cannot win,

So all you have to do is,

    Don't lure the fish in.

The lesson to be learned is,

Instead of putting fish in a bin,

Why don’t you watch the dance, and then,

    Maybe you’ll even join in.

I like the people, the mountains- I like the whole state.

But there is the occasion that here it will snow
Ten inches, ten feet… We never do know!

Making snowmen and angels and forts is a blast
But instead we’re in school, learning about the past.

No matter how wet, how cold, or how dreary,
I stumble to school, and it’s pathetic really.

Since every day I walk to school,
I need some equipment that will keep me cool.

And by cool, I of course mean DRY,
When I show up to math soaked, I always want to cry.

And since the superintendent won’t cancel school…
Please, Mom and Dad, I need some new snow boots!

I would rather just go home
    Mrs. Moritz, please have mercy
    I cannot write any poetry

Persuasive poems are hard to write
And I may be up all night
How this thought fills me with sorrow
What about my math test tomorrow?

My teachers assign so many things
All this homework hurts my feelings
When I work on homework the minutes fly
My lack of time makes me want to cry

I enjoy poetry, yes this is true
And this assignment, I’d gladly do
But my mind is addled from lack of sleep
And I’m not even sure what rhymes with “sleep”

Please understand, it’s not because I’m lazy
But I just can’t write poems when my mind is so hazy
I’m sure you’d prefer something with quality
Over something that could by by a kid in grade three

Can’t I just sleep and lay
    In my bed today?
    I’m willing to pay

    I’d sleep in
    And maybe even win
Some board games we'd play, much to your chagrin
Can’t you just say yes to my askin’?

    I’d be really good
    Like you know I would
Mom – have you already misunderstood?
Understand this please - it’s my begging that you’ve withstood

    I’m really not sick
    But I want to stick
In this house, skipping school – it’d be really slick
It would be a great trick

    Please, oh please
Before I start to fake sneeze
Oh, don't make me get on my knees
    Just say yes with ease!

Oh, Mom, isn’t there any way
That I can be "sick" today?

    Harry Potter is his name
If you don’t like him ‘tis a shame,
    Day in, day out
    I always shout
    Whenever, I hear his name.
    Draco Malfoy, evil git
Even he will throw a fit,
    If Harry is not liked.
For The Boy Who Lived is famous you see
So how one cannot possible be
In love with him is a quandary.

    Just doing their thing.

Will take your mind out of its cave.
    So come with me
    And you will surely see,
The beauty that Harry Potter can be.

  37. My childhood.
    It is another world.
    7 books,
    Many words,
    One perfect story.
    Harry Potter
    Is the name,
    A simple scar
    His claim to fame.
    You may say
    there is no point,
    You may say it's stupid.
    To those who doubt,
    Thowse who hate,
    I have but one word,
    For all to hear,
    But one word,
    Loud and clear.
    Crucio!

  38. Vacation

    It's cold outside
    I have not lied

    The wheather is so bad
    I might just go mad

    Let's fly far away
    To a destanation get-a-way

Skipping school won't hurt a bit
If I stay I will have a fit

    Book some tickets
    Let's get to it

    Hawaii won't wait much longer
    Jamaica isn't getting stronger

    Come on y'all
    We will have a ball

Let's get away from all this dreary
Oh won't you be such a deary?

  39. Persuasive Poem~

My best friend in the whole wide world
Really is not your average girl.

And for some reason unbeknownst to me
She's chosen you to bring her glee.

But heed my warning and heed it fast
Break her heart, and it will be your last.

She's giving you everything she can
So please try, for her. to stay a good man.

You may fight about class and virtue,
and maybe there's a chance she might even hurt you.

But as her best friend it's my obligation to say:
If things go bad, then from me stay away.

    Capture and enlighten me
    Make me feel free

Let your sound drift into my ears
With your inspiration, I have no fears

Please help me find the way
Of my steps each and every day

Without you, I have neither reason nor rhyme
    Come closer-be mine.

    That’s what I endorse

    I know I have one
    But two is more fun

    Maybe a shire
    They’re a little bit higher

    Or maybe a mini
    With a cute little whinny

    Perhaps one with dapples
    Who loves to eat apples

    Or maybe a paint
    So gorgeous I faint

But if you ask me what I really fancy
I’d say an Arabian, they’re fun and pracny

  43. It doesn’t have to be shiny,
    it may even be tiny.

I just want a car to drive around,
Without it, I’m feeling quite down.

A licence i do not own,
but i will keep on trying until you moan.

    Who needs a licence anyway?
    Driving is easier than ballet.

I can drive better than a professional.
The want of a car is quite obsessional.

I can’t live on without one anymore,
My life is just becoming a bore.

Wishing of placing that are too far away,
‘A magical car will appear to take me there!’ i pray.

Frankly, a car is just my only wish
I wouldn’t even mind if it looked like a soap dish.

  44. There is better rush that makes you feel alive,
So jump out a plane and skydive.

    You will scream aloud
As your friends and you race through the clouds.

Your heart beats fast enough that it may burst
This is the only way it will satisfy your adrenaline’s thirst.

And as your lugs fill with air
Be strong, and open your parachute, you’re nearly there.

As you land you’ll surely realize
How only several minutes have passed bye.

Days later you will look to the sky
To remember the day when you did fly.

One that happens, come to me and say
Would you like to come sky diving with me today?

  45. The Sport

I love the sport, I really do
Just a little running makes me feel anew

I know that I must get in shape
But the coaches mouth I'd like to tape

The stairs, the laps, the pushups too
the parents just can't get a clue

I love the sport, really it's true
but the training I hate that we have to go through

I'll play as well I truly can
I'll even pretent to be your #1 fan

But the running and jumping for hours on end
Has gone way too far for me to comprehend

I have a respect for the sport as I should
But I can't be the best I really could

Cause' the pain in my legs and the burn in my knees
have dropped me down to beg you, please!

I'll do all the drills that require a cone
But the stairs on tihs day will just make me groan

Please don't make us frun, for miles on end
A few short sprints will make me your friend

I love the sport for as long as I've playes
And with all this running I can't believe I've stayed

    Colleen R.

There is something that I want
It is very dear to me
I know you may not like this
But please listen to my plea
    I want a little puppy
    A little adoptee

With fuzzy fur and wagging tail
He would always play and run
I would play with him all day
Till we were spent and done
And I won't give up asking
    Till my argument is won

    I would always be responsible
And take care of my dog
I would take him on walks
    Through all rain and fog
He would be my dearest friend
Cheer me up if I'm in a bog

So please won't you get me
    A little puppy dog?

  47. A dinosaur is the pet for me
I would be the coolest kid in this country

We could strut up and down
    The cool cats in town

    The people would love him
When we go to the gym

    And stand up and cheer
    At his weight lifting premier

    I would do my homework
    Without going berserk

    And clean up my room
    And wash and vacuum

    To keep the house clean
    Till the counter tops gleam

I could feed him with food
    And safe and shampooed

    My own dinosaur
Our lives would be like never before

    a must for me,
    I want to go somewhere,
as there is something I want to see,
It's green but Ice still fits it's name,
I won't make a fuss, if that's what you believe,
    then I'll stir up trouble,
and still find time to grieve,
I want to go badly, oh can't you see,

    I won’t hit the bar,
    I’ll have more money,
For when I get a honey,
And I can pay more for college
    So I can get knowledge,
    Just as repayment
    For the great entertainment,
That I’d get from my car,
I won’t have to use yours
    Or crawl on all fours
To get to my friends’ house.
I could take you to the store,
    Or anything more,
All I need is a car,
And the world would be free,
    So pretty pretty please,
    Just buy one for me.

    The diamondbacks cannot repeat,
Seeing them lose will be a treat.

The Padres out in Petco Park,
Will most surely be off the mark.

The Giants with pitching so great,
Too bad the bats swing too late.

Sure the Dodgers have Matt Kemp,
But the ownership has got too much hemp.

There is but one more team in the division!
Surely the wild west has a decision.

The Rockies will take it with youth in the bats,
Don't forget about the pitching, those are the facts.

So don't waste money, let me ski

  54. Persuasive Poem:

    C’mon, we've got to face reality;
After a while, school gains a lot of monotony.

    Wouldn't it be great
If we could win this debate

And add more 3 day weekends to our schedule.

It'd add a little excitement to our lives every now and then
So we could relax in the mountains, or spend time with our kin.

The students would be rested, prepared for that big test
And they'd be coming back to class ready to do their very best.

Now it doesn't have to be every week (though that would be a lot of fun)
It would give kids a chance to play out in the beautiful Colorado sun.

You don't have to worry, homework will get done and grades will stay high
But for a couple extra Fridays, to school we will say “bye”.

  55. Have you heard the word
A vacation to the beach would be preferred

We need to get out a rest in the sun
The stress has built up and we need some fun

    The beach would be nice
    Who cares about the price

The smell of salt in the air
    An coconut milk with flair

Warm sun is the only alarm clock
And the dinging of bells at the dock

The peace of a rod and reel in hand
And a fish on the sand

The sight of reef waving in the current
Unlike the rough torrent at home

    The regatta on the horizon
    Sails flapping from the mizzen

A sense of unity between the family and happiness to share
Nothing but a trip would compare

  57. How could I have done it? I don’t even know!
I was framed for this misdeed, that’s got to show.
It wasn’t my fault; someone else is in the wrong.
When will you realize, I’ve been right all along?
It’s plain that I’m innocent, there’s no proof to convict.
Except maybe the bakers, but they always contradict.
And maybe the doorman, who watched and who waited,
But they didn’t see nothin’! It won’t need to be debated.
I swear it wasn't me, your witnesses are lying,
Keep searching for the person, for time they are buying.
The pedestrian was incorrect, in placing me there.
They must have been bought off, by the man with the bear.
On that subject, who knows if he's to be trusted?
His eyes are too shifty, his nose is all busted.
You've got to believe I could do no such thing
as this crime that on me you're pinning.

I'm not like a ship unmanned.

I control every part of my being,
you just choose what you're seeing.

You see the parts that make me seem
like I don't like being part of a team.

Why can't you open your eyes?
Let go of the binds and ties.

I beg you, please, see me as I am,

  61. Oh Man! I Lost A Bet.

Okay. I will admit it…I lost a bet
I need two dollars...I’m unfortunately in debt

    So I beg of thee
Give me some money and here is my plea

    I am a good girl
I will surely send you for a whirl

I will pay you back I swear
    Trust me, I’ll be fair

    Tell me a deadline
No way I couldn’t make it in time

If you want to, add a fine
    I just wouldn’t decline

If you give me the money
We must be in love...will you be my honey

Now this is taking a turn for the best
I think I may have found my new love interest

    I mean…you are kind
    And always on my mind

Why have I just realized this?
I mean love just seems…so bliss

    So forget the bet
    I think I am set
