First Day of High School

What did you expect from your first day of high school. Was AHS all that you expected it would be or were you disappointed? What surprised you? What do you most look forward to? What can I do to make high school better for you (do not ask for Chipotle from me!! :))

  1. I expected to get lost on my first day, but I didn't. AHS was better than I expected it to be. I thought it would be scary, but there were people there to help. I am looking forward to meeting new people and learning new things.

  2. I expected to get lost too, but I didn't. AHS was more fun than I initially thought it would be. I enjoyed the amount of freedom I got whether it is a variable schedule or unscheduled hours. I'm looking forward to my next 4 years a AHS.

  3. On my first day, I expected to be late to class and get lost. I also expected that I would know most of the people in my classes, but I met a lot of new people. What surprised me was the amount of people in the hallways. It was hard to get to some of my classes, but that's probably because I didn't know where they were. I look most forward to making new friends this year and learning more about different subjects.

  4. On my first day, I expected to be late to a few of my classes. I definitely did not know how crowded the halls would be between classes, but I managed to get to all my classes on time or even early and avoid getting trampled in the halls.

  5. I was close to getting lost, but I didn't... Thank goodness. I was surprised at how many people there were. I was also surprised at how many of them acted like they were in their own little world, not paying attention to anything but their friends. I also have a few classes with a lot of sophomores in them, which is surprisingly awkward. I'm looking forward to fitting in more, because as of right now, I'm just not feeling AHS.

  6. I was very excited, but also nervous. I was expectant of the big school and people, but it wasn't to overwelming. It was definitely more than I expected mainly because people were welcoming. I was suprised at the few things we got done during class. Time flew! The only thing that could make my high school experience better is helping me when I have questions!

  7. I was expecting the worst, thanks to the "kind words" I got from upperclassmen that were friends of my sister. I thought I would get lost and have to ask directions and no one would help you, but I got to class on time and with minimal help/getting lost. It was awesome! I'm very excited for the next week. I'm looking forward to theatre and everything AHS has to offer!

  8. I was expecting to be confused and overwhelmed. I was, but only for the first amount of the day. I ended up feeling good about my new high school by the end of the day. I only needed help once, and found I could get around well from memories of both orientation, and my brother attending.

  9. Hi! Its Katie Cooper. Honestly, high school was a whole lot scarier and also a whole lot more fun then I thought it would be. I was expecting to be in classes with just freshman, which I definitly wasn't. That suprised me, along with how good the food was in the cafeteria. :) I was definitly plesently suprised at everything Arapahoe has to offer. My school year would be a whole lot better if I had help in reaching my goal of straight As.

  10. Arapahoe was exactly how I expected it to be. I was very suprised to see how welcoming and comforting the staff and students were. Thumbs up! As the year continues I look forward to making many friends and enjoying the high school experience. Last but not least for you Mrs. Moritz just keep being funny and help me succeed in your class.

  11. Hello! This is Jianna LoCricchio. Arapahoe was what I had expected. I really didn't know what to expect though because I had no clue what it would be like. It was really different than middle school. Especially because I came from a private school which is much much smaller than Arapahoe. I am really looking forward to meeting new people because I really don't know that many. I was very surprised at how many things their are to do at Arapahoe and all it has to offer. As of now I can't really think of any ways to make my high school experience better because nothing has gone wrong yet.

  12. Arapahoe was pretty much just what I expected, except I'm not sure really what I was excepting. I wasn't worried about getting lost because I know the school well and I know the layout of it. The hallways were crowded but I could still move around and I got to most of my classes on time. I look forward to the social aspect of high school; getting involved in sports, the dances, and meeting new people.

  13. I expected high school to be exciting but at the same time overwhelming. I was glad that I didn't really get lost. The teachers were kind and I'm glad that high school isn't as nerve wracking as it's thought out to be. I hope that school continues on to be like it did today, maybe better. I don't think you could do much to make Arapahoe high school better for me but I would like class to be fun just like it was today.

  14. Arapahoe was kind of like I thought it would be. I was suprised that the halls weren't as full as I thought and it was weird that there were some upperclassmen in my classes. I got a little lost but I found my way around. I look forward to meeting new people, getting involved and just having fun.

  15. My first day of high school was better than I had expected. I anticipated getting lost on my way from class to class, but instead I traveled from each class easily and quickly. I was surprised by the chaos an AHS, particularly in the hallways between classes. I look forward to growing at AHS and meeting new people. My teachers could make high school better for me by improving their communication with students.

  16. Wow. I was a complete mess a few days before high school. I was worried about my classes and if I'd have any with friends, about the upperclassman, and, I'm kinda embarrassed to say, the amount of effort high school would involve and if I'd have ANY free time left. Most of my fears were put at ease. Most of my classes are great (yours was awesome, don't worry Mrs. Moritz), the upperclassman were okay, and although there are a few challenges I need to overcome still, I know I will be okay. It would help me a lot if you were just a teacher that I could go to if I needed help of any kind. I think that both everybody else and I would benefit from that.

  17. My first day was full of surprises, I didn't get lost, made a lot of friends, and I'm excited to go to school tomorrow. I was surprised that the hallways weren't as crowded as I had expected and that the upperclassmen were always friendly and had a huge smile on their faces. I look forward to having my high school experience. To make tomorrow better then today I would just wish that the teachers would continue to have enthusiasm inside the school.

  18. I expected to get lost and be late for classes but I didn't really have a problem with it. I had a lot of fun and I only have one class where the upperclassmen make fun of me (wish me luck!). I thought I would meet a lot more people but I just saw the people I already knew, hopefully this will change throughout the year.

  19. I suspected that I would get lost from class to class but I never did. Although I had many classes with juniors and seniors, I was surprised how quickly I became comfortable with Arapahoe and Arapahoe's faculty. I have already made some new friends and I look forward to making many more. I don't know what this year holds but I have a feeling it is going to be a good one.

  21. After msg first day at arapahoe, it went better than I thought it would. The halls were not as crowded as I had heard they would be. I also managed to be on time to every class. I really look forward to having my first off period and spending the breaks in the upcoming weeks.

  22. On my first day of high school, I was completely expecting to be tardy to at least one of my classes, or not being able to find any friends in a class or during my lunch period. I was also expecting to find at least one of my teachers that I didn't like from the very start. Though I quickly found out, I had nothing to worry about, and none of these expectancies occurred. Arapahoe was so much more than I expected it to be, I could see that from the moment I walked through the doors to start school here. I was surprised by how nice all of the students, and especially staff were. I look most forward to having the freedom that previous years of school hadn't offered, the school dances for sure, and certainly the level of competitiveness expressed among the players on the basketball court. I can't wait to find the many challenges that will rise up to meet me in my path throughout high school. Well, since I can't ask for Chipotle, can I ask for Starbucks?

  23. I expected to get completely over whelmed. I thought I was going to get lost. I got to school early just to get an idea of where all of my classes were, and that helped. I think that so far from my experience, high school is going to be all that it is made out to be. I felt very welcomed. I also felt the freedom that I wanted. I was very surprised at how I didn’t feel like a prisoner at AHS. I look forward to doing well and feeling more and more like a Warrior every day. High school will be much easier if I get help whenever I need it.

  24. During my first day of high school I expected to get lost a few times and be late to at least one class. AHS was better than what I expected it would be. There were plenty of people to help guide me around, I didn't get lost and I found it was easier to find my friends before lunch than I had thought it would be. I was surprised how few freshman there are in some of my classes and I look forward to learning new things and making new friends:)

  25. The first day of highschool definitely wasn't as bad as I expected. All the hallways are really easy to get through. For sure not as clogged as Powell halls! I was dissapointed though that I don't have any classes with my closest friends. But it's a big school, whatcha gonna do right?(: I'm really glad that this year is a fresh start, I'm looking forward to getting away from certain people and getting closer with others! Oh. And I'm excited to have the best english teacher. Whatta suck-up I am(:

  26. I expected AHS to be a little confusing and kind of intimidating. I actually expected to get lost a few times and be late. On my first day, AHS definitely exceeded my expectations. It was actually much less confusing than I thought, I knew lots of people that I could say hi to or hang out with, and if I ever needed help, there was always some one there. I was kind of suprised in a few of my classes when I showed up and I was one of about 3 freshman in the class. Luckily, I always knew someone in my classes. I was also suprised about how different it is from middle school. Even though we change classes like them, I feel that we have a lot of freedom and a lot more fun classes and events. I definitely look forward to making friends and being the best Warrior I can be. I will definitely find high school to be easier if the teacher is always fun to be around. Boring teachers just make the class hard!

  27. AHS was more than I expected. My classes all seemed surprisingly fun (especially English!) and the only thing I was surprised about was that all my classes were pretty easy to find. I am really looking forward to making new friends and still be friends with my old ones. I am also really excited to have off hours to be able to get a head start on homework or otter classwork. I think that having fun is going to be what can make high school better!

  28. Going into my first day of high school, I wasn't worried about getting lost or being late. I was just looking forward to having a new experience and meeting new people. Having off campus lunch was awesome but high school didn't seem that different than middle school except for the fact that there is a lot more people. For some reason it still doesn't seem like Arapahoe is my school. It feels like it is still my sisters and I am just visiting. I look forward to getting settled in and feeling more comfortable at the school. To make high school better for me you can just continue teaching a fun class and that will hopefully make high school a better place.

  29. I had a great day of school! Everyone was very nice and my sister and her freinds helped me get around. I thought it would be much harder to walk through the halls but it's not too bad. I'm glad there's so many more people than my old school.

  30. I would of never imagined my very first day of high school to go so well! I found all of my classes with out any problem. I had Cross COuntry practice and I really enjoyed it. Also when other AHS students say, " High school is nothing like middle school", they mean it. It was and unbelieveable day.

  31. It was MUCH better than I had expected. My older sister had come home the first day crying. It was better for me though, because unlike her I started with friends (She'd transferred from a different district) and I was already used to crowded hallways and fiercely elbowing my way through. I didn't make any new friends, but that was expected, I mean, it was only the first day. The day was great, I only got lost once, but I slept like a baby I was so tired.

  32. On my first day I was really worried about getting lost all the time but surprisingly, I only got lost once. I also expected my classes to be very difficult and boring and they definitely were not! I had also expected to have more friends from middle school in my classes. However I found a lot of new friends in my classes and some that I knew from elementary school that I hadn't seen in a while. I really liked all the teachers and classes and especially off-campus lunch. It was a great day.

  33. I am so excited to finally be in high school! There is so much freedom now. I went to a tiny private school so things are very different. I can't wait to learn more!

  34. My first day at AHS wasn't as tough as I expected. All the hype about the first day of high school being tough and intimidating seemed to dissolve as I followed my schedule throughout the day. I was surprised by how many of my classes had students from different grades, and how large our freshman class is. I'm excited to run cross-country and track competitively and represent my school. -Rick Z

  35. My first day at AHS was not as tough as I thought it would be. I thought I was going to get lost at least twice. I did not get lost once, which was a complete surprise. I found all my classes with ease. I made some new friends and I enjoy all of my teachers as well. I am excited to possibly play golf and baseball. I can't wait to see what Arapahoe has in store for me! - Drew F

  36. On the first day at AHS I expected to get lost or not have time to get from class to class, but I did just fine. Once you get to know the hallways it is quite easy to find classes. AHS was so much more than I expected! Everyone was so nice and welcoming. This is also what I was surprised about. I thought people would still be in their groups and not to talk to new people but they were. I am most looking forward to meeting new people.

  37. I expected my first day at Arapahoe to be tougher than it was. It was a bit boring, but some teachers made it more fun. I didn't get lost, and I made some new friends. I was suprised that the upper-classmen left people they dont know alone, even though I knew they were not going to be mean. I am excited for soccer and cross-country and to be a Warrior!

  38. My first day of school actually went really well. I met tons of new people and reunited with some old friends I hadn't seen in a while.Just like everybody else, I though I would get lost and not know what the heck I was doing but I wasn't late for one class, and all the teachers were very helpful in helping me find where to go. All the upper classman were really nice too. I knew I wasn't going to get bullied or whatever but I thought they would treat me like I wasn't there but they all knew I needed some help so they gave it to me. All my teachers seem really nice and some of them already like me so I'm pretty excited about that. Great day, and I'm looking forward to the rest of my high school career.

  39. Arapahoe turned out to be better than I actually thought it would be. Personally, I thought that upperclassman would just ignore me (possibly stuff me in my locker or play pranks), but surprisingly they helped me find my classes and even told me where certain things are in the building. What surprised me the most happened to be that I was one of four freshman to be in my biology class, followed by all sophmores (I think). However, out of all those things, I found out that I was actually looking forward to a great year with the football team and to get to know many other students from several different schools. Plus, my teachers are really nice people, but we all know that's going to change when we all get to know each other in the classroom. Well, there's nothing more to ask for besides the simple fact of having fun in class. I hope for a great year as a freshman.

  40. I found it a lot easier to wake up in the morning compared to middle school, as weird as that sounds. Plus, so far, all my teachers seem pretty cool (especaily Mrs. Moritz...she's the coolest ;) ) The hallways were a lot more crowded than I expected though. And my locker is in a bad spot, but I'm actually having a good time. I am definitely looking forward to making a new group of friends and soccer.
I'm looking forward to a fun year as a freshman, and donuts from Mrs. Moritz :).

  41. Hi! this is Casey Smoots commenting for the first time. My first day was all that I expeted and more! I certainly wasn't expecting to get much homework or go to a surprise pep assdembly. I certainly look forward to living it up freshman year and hope that homework won't become overwhelming. Thanks! :)

  42. I expected the first day of school to be terrifying, crazy, and confusing; however, high school was fantastic and fun! I actually expected AHS to be huge and have a lot of hot guys. I was a little disappointed when a cheerleader happened to inform me that, “Dem boys are slim pickins here.” Yet, I still remain optimistic. Also, I was very surprised that I did not get beat up, well at least not yet. I hear upperclassman like to “teach fresh meat some lessons.” I hope they are talking about tutoring… I look forward the most are the high school games and cheering on my fellow classmates. I can make high school better for myself in many ways, but one way is to NOT PROCRASTINATE. Which is very hard for someone who used to do their homework in front of the television, but I am glad to say I am on the road to recovery and man am I determined!

  43. Hi! This is Lauren Tew. I expected that the first day of school would be super stressful, but the truth is that it wasn't. I didn't get lost, not even once. That was really surprising to me because I'm always the one of my friends to get lost. I’m really looking forward to all the fun of classes and making new friends this year. Truth is that there’s nothing that teachers can really do to help me along... unless they want to do my homework for me and I doubt that will be happening. Looking forward to this year, thanks! :)

  44. On the first day, AHS was overwhelming and hard to get used to but fun. I was surprised by how many sophomores were in my classes because of honor classes. I look forward to soccer and for the year to get easier when I start to get used to the school.

  45. I was really excited for my firsy day of school, but the nerves suddenly kicked in- so I was truely astonished when I didn't screw up by walking into any of the wrong classes. Truth be told, I think we owe a lot to Link Crew, because they really helped out last Friday! I can't wait for all the fun at Arapahoe this year!

  46. My first day at Arapahoe High School was far from what I expected but still good. I was surprised to see so many tall people I really had to look up. I wasn't disappointed by a lot but the school feels smaller than the first day I was in the building for honors testing. I look forward to begin a successful high school career.

  47. My high expectations of AHS were bravely met by both teachers and students. The first day was not perfect, but it was certainly great. The many upperclassmen in my classes surprised me; an unspoken challenge for me to earn their respect was received. My two-day experience is telling me that this will be especially hard in math class. I look forward to meeting and further getting to know a lot of new people, sharing with them what I hope will be a great high school experience. To keep me motivated, you can always get me Starbucks. :)

  48. Hi! I'm Kathryn Cheney. I tried to post the other day, but it said my acount (school) was not allowed to veiw the page. So I'm trying a new account.
I expected high school to be this tough, slave laboring work area that gave out 5 hours of homework and left no time for anything else.I was pleasently surprised by how smooth and exciting high school is, yet still challenging. I like all of my teachers and classes, which surprised me because some classes I wasn't too ready or energetic to be there. But on the second day, it was nearly perfect. I have seen alot of my friends, from middle school, church, and from orientation and sports. I'm really looking forward to getting to know them better and learning new things inb my classes. I can't think of anything off the tp of my head that I need, but if I need help, I'll let you know. thanks! GO WARRIORS!!

  49. Arapahoe was cool. I liked the freedom and am glad I didn't get lost. I am looking forward to football and meeting people. High school will be fun.

  50. My first day of high school was pretty awesome! I was a little intimidated at first, but I got used to it pretty quickly. I like most of my teachers and I made a few new friends. That counts as a god day for me!

  51. My first day of high school went better then I had expected. I didn't get lost once, something I was very proud of, nor did I forget any of my supplies. I really liked all of my teachers and I made some good new friends. My only complaint is that I don’t have lunch with any of my friends from middle school, but I’ll survive.

    ReplyDelete
  52. My first of school was great, it was a little overwhelming walking through all the hallways with 2,000 other people you don't know, but it was a lot easier than i thought finding each class and so many people were friendly and helpful!

  53. My first day at AHS was everthing that I thought it would be and so much more! I am so happy to be in a bigger school. I hope to make new friends and do well in all of my classes. I was lucky enough to get into all of the classes that I wanted. I love my teachers allready. I hope that as school progresses that I can learn to stay organized, manage my time well, and stay on top of my homework.

  54. I really thought I would get lost on my first day, but it was surprisingly easy to find your way around, and everyone was willing to help you find a class. I was really shy and nervous in the beginning, but it was easy to loosen up once I realized that everyone was just as nervous as me. I'm really looking forward to meeting new people and getting involved with the school.

  55. I was expecting my first day at Arapahoe to be completely chaotic. I was sure that I would get lost, and I was really nervous. Surprisingly, my day went really well! I found all of my classes, made it to them on time, and found that I like all my teachers and classes. The crowded, crazy hallways were the most difficult part of my day. There were so many people going so many different directions, it was overwhelming. I am excited to be an Arapahoe Warrior and am looking forward to more fun!
